Bio

Dr. Nandini Murali, PhD in gender studies. Author of Left Behind: Surviving suicide loss (Westland, 2021) A suicide prevention and mental health advocate, her lived experience of suicide loss inspired her to establish SPEAK, an initiative to create safe, inclusive, supportive spaces for conversations on suicide; SPEAk2us (93754 93754), mental health helpline for people in psychological distress; and Project SPEAK, postvention services for women impacted by suicide loss.

Bio

Dr Geetha Desai is specialises in women’s mental health, chronic pain and medically unexplained symptoms, psychotherapy and neuropsychiatry

Objectives:

  1. To Identify gender-specific factors that influence the bereavement process following a suicide and emotional and psychological needs of individuals.

  2. To Implement strategies informed by lived experiences to support individuals bereaved by suicide.

  3. To Reflect on personal biases and plan actionable steps to reduce stigma and promote inclusivity in their own settings. 

  4. To Demonstrate key facilitation skills for bereavement support groups.
