Bio

Dr. Shuba Kumar is a founding member of Samarth, an NGO established in 2007 that focuses on social science research and training. She has been involved in many international and national research projects, largely focusing on behavioural and mental health issues, and has extensive experience with qualitative research methods and analysis. She has published in both national and international peer-reviewed journals and is the course coordinator for workshops on qualitative research methods and analysis, as well as on questionnaire design.

Bio

Dr. Rani Mohanraj is a Fogarty Fellow in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Washington, Seattle. She is one of the founding members of Samarth that was started in 2007 in Chennai. She has extensive experience in research studies that used qualitative methods of interviews, focus group discussions and observations and is experienced in analysing qualitative research using Nvivo software.

Objectives

To orient researchers to the important tenets of qualitative research essential to its design and conduct. Beginning with the reflective process of framing research questions; decisions on the analytical approaches and what makes each distinctive from the other; considerations on design and sampling; ways of enhancing research rigour to techniques in data analysis, the workshop will seek to provide an accessible starting point from which researchers can begin their journey of learning about designing and conducting qualitative research. These will be discussed and presented in the context of women’s health research.

Eligibility

PhD research scholars in any social sciences/ MD in psychiatry/Teaching faculty/post-doctoral fellows/working in a research organisation/ with a Masters degree who are working in a research organisation with interest in qualitative research will be eligible and will benefit from participation in this workshop.
